It somehow slipped my mind, but Narcos season 3 just came out on Netflix so that means it’s available online, with subtitles, in full HD.
For those of you unfamiliar with Narcos: The first two seasons detail the rise and ultimate fall of Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Drug Cartel. It’s a gorgeous series, terrific acting, spoken in authentic Colombian Spanish. It’s also… horrendously violent and at times quite gruesome. The language is just foul as well; as is to be expected. These are hardened career criminals and narco terrorists.
I absolutely adored the 1st two seasons, but did find portions hard to get through either because of the violence or the non stop Spanish.
Season 3 will track the rise of the Cali Cartel, who take over the cocaine production and smuggling business with the FARC and various right wing paramilitary groups.
I am unsure to where this season will lead, but I know that eventually sometime in the early to mid nineties, the Mexican Drug Cartels (who until then just smuggled the stuff into the US) begin to buy and manage their own drug shipments slowly taking over as the world’s most dangerous and powerful drug cartels. In Mexico their influence complete wrecks the country with a death toll now approaching 200 thousand.
The horror that is modern Mexico is impossible to describe.
This is the late 1980’s, early 1990s.
You can find the other two seasons there as well.
I am not entirely sure when I can watch it all, since I have loads of work to do this weekend as well, including cleaning.
Do not expect a whole lot of blogging; my apologies.
